Starting salary: £36,829
Salary range for the FRS E grade : £36,829 - £43,992

The London Fire Brigade’s vision is to be a world class fire and rescue service. We are the busiest fire and rescue service in the country and one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world. Our workforce comprises of about 4,500 operational and 1,000 non-operational staff.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and motivated Technical Accountant . We are looking for a dynamic and energetic individual who can build on the success of our financial accounting team.

In this newly created role you will be responsible for working as part of the team to deliver high levels of service for all areas of financial accounting. Key areas will include:

• Coordinating and completing the annual closure of accounts processes including liaison with the external auditors.
• Capital monitoring, budgeting and accounting.
• Treasury management and cashflow monitoring.
• Ensuring effective financial controls including completion of complex reconciliations.
• Financial analysis including the interpretation and implementation of technical accounting changes.
• Pensions accounting.
• Completion of statutory returns.
• Supporting the planning and implementation of new systems and processes.

About You
You will be a fully qualified CCAB or CIMA Accountant with a sound knowledge of financial regulations and statutory financial reporting requirements in a large organisation.

You will demonstrate good communication, influencing and presentation skills, being able to interpret financial data and apply logic and judgement. The ability to build effective and productive working relationships with colleagues throughout the organisation and demonstrate a personal commitment to resolving issues is essential to the role.

Assessment Overview

Please address the following selection criteria in your online application form:

Selection Criteria 1 - Experience of organising, planning and prioritising own work in a flexible manner, with minimal supervision, in order in order to meet tight deadlines.

Selection Criteria 2 - Good written and oral communication skills in order to draft reports, correspondence, and procedure documentation often of a complex nature; ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels and in other organisations.

Selection Criteria 3 - Proven relevant experience of working in finance in a large organisation, to include experience of budget preparation and closing of accounts.

Selection Criteria 4 - Thorough understanding of current local government accounting practice and procedures, with particular knowledge of the provisions of the CIPFA Code of Practice on Local Authority Accounting in the United Kingdom based on International Financial Reporting Standards, and the Prudential Code.
