Sustainability Officer
Status: Permanent
Salary: £28,671 pa
Grade: FRS C


An opportunity has arisen within the London Fire Brigade in the permanent role of Sustainability Officer.

In this role you will be supporting the Sustainable Development team to implement and monitor sustainability policies, including Responsible Procurement and management of environmental compliance. This includes undertaking premises audits at sites across London, maintaining compliance registers, producing/collating and analysing information to inform policy and procedure development, performance management and drafting of reports on these areas. Responsible Procurement duties include supporting the risk assessment of contracts, the provision of information to contract and procurement managers to ensure environmental compliance and improve the social value gained through our spend and to monitor supplier performance.

You will require experience of collecting and analysing data for inclusion in papers and reports and will need to possess an environmental degree in a relevant environmental subject. Good oral and written communications skills are required to liaise with all levels of a multi- disciplined staff and respresentatives from outside bodies. You will also require an awareness of responsible procurement application within the public sector and environmental management systems.

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed for the successful person, which will include a basic criminal records check. 1.1 Possess an environmental degree in a relevant environmental subject and gained relevant work experience. Evidence of membership of or studying towards associate level of IEMA is desirable.

1.2 Demonstrate an awareness of environmental management systems and environmental tools.

2.2 Good written and oral communication skills for the effective liaison with all levels of multi-disciplined staff and staff representatives and outside bodies.

3.2 Demonstrate an awareness of the principles of Sustainable Development and its practical application in relation to environmental improvement and responsible procurement.
