Salary range for the SOM grade: £44,872 - £58,266 per annum plus £5,126.62 (stand-by/callout allowance) per annum

London Fire Brigade is seeking to recruit a Senior Operations Manager (SOM) to form part of the senior management team for the Control and Mobilising Department based at our London Operations Centre in Merton, South West London. We are seeking highly motivated, talented and adaptable applicants who have the vision and leadership to help shape the future of London Fire Control. Do you have what we are looking for?

This is an exciting and challenging time to join us. We are embarking on a programme of change to ensure London Fire Control is ready to meet the challenges and realise the opportunities ahead. The successful candidate will posses a detailed understanding of the issues facing the fire and rescue service, particularly London Fire Brigade and emergency Control rooms. They will also need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Applicants must have a full UK clean driving licence to receive appropriate training to be able to respond as a blue light emergency driver. The successful candidate would need to be either a member of the Brigade’s Lease Car Scheme or the Essential Car User Scheme.

Assessment Overview

As part of the online application form, candidates must provide evidence to address the following criteria:

Selection Criteria 1 - Experience of developing policies, procedures and standards.

Selection Criteria 2 - Experience of managing, leading and motivating staff.

Selection Criteria 3 -Effective interpersonal skills to develop and maintain good working relationships with people at all levels both internally and externally.

Selection Criteria 4 -An appreciation of the importance of consultation, service standards and performance indicators in an emergency response environment.

Additional Information

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £25 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
