The Role
Senior Accident Investigator (SAI) Role Recruitment
Health and Safety are opening the recruitment process for Station Managers and Group Managers to undertake the Senior Accident Investigator role.
Closing date 15 May 2019 at 16:00 GMT
What is an SAI?
A Senior Accident Investigator (SAI) leads the logical, consistent and impartial approach to safety event investigation, for safety events that result in, or have the potential to cause death, injury or major financial loss to the Authority.
The SAI role is an integral part of the Brigades process in assisting the Brigade to develop and maintain safe systems of work. The SAI will often be the first contact in assessing the severity of accidents within the Brigade and arranging an appropriate response.
The SAI role is immensely rewarding and does require a level of personal commitment. Furthermore, the SAI role is currently under review with consideration for the group undertaking a more pro-active safety role on the incident ground.
Development will be delivered through a 4 day Senior Accident Investigator course (HSSAII) and given the opportunity to achieve a NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety consisting of two five day courses with final examinations. It is anticipated that we will run 24 Senior Accident Investigator Courses and up to 12 NEBOSH courses this year.
Successful applicants will need to be flexible in their approach to workloads, understanding that they may be required to attend incidents anywhere in the Brigade area, sometimes for an extended period. You will also be required to assist with ongoing investigations and safety events with the view to making our colleagues safer.
Part of your commitment will be to attend up to four Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training sessions per year. This provides an opportunity to discuss key safety events and contribute to the team understanding.
It is important where the applicant already holds other tags or responsibilities they make certain that they can commit to the work required to be an SAI before applying. Your line manager should be consulted and must support your application. Due to the time and expense of qualification, a minimum of two years commitment, following NEBOSH competency, is expected.
Eligibility
This is an internal post and is only open to promoted Station Managers and Group Managers, including those on development.
Successful applicants will be added to the SAI rota when they complete the Senior Accident Investigator course (HSSAII). NEBOSH Certificate courses will be allocated based on interview performance and subject to participant availability on the course dates.
