Grade: FRS C
Starting salary: £29,244 per annum
Salary range for the FRS C grade: £29,244 - £35,107 per annum
Status: Fixed-term / Secondment (initially 12 months with the potential for an extension to this period depending on project progress)

An opportunity has arisen for the role of RPE Replacement Project Support Officer. As Project Support Officer you will be a key part of the team that will deliver this corporate project to procure and rollout improved breathing apparatus (BA) and ancillary equipment for frontline staff.

Applicants do not require any operational experience or knowledge of breathing apparatus, but will have the opportunity to learn about this vital safety equipment and how firefighters use it at operational incidents.

The successful candidate will provide administrative support to the project team and have a key role in documenting and scheduling its work. You will be required to work with both internal clients (often with a number of different departments), and external clients such as equipment manufacturers.

The postholder will be required to produce detailed written work while working to deadlines and therefore good communication, prioritisation and organisational skills are essential.

To be successful you will have good interpersonal skills in order to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships at all levels across LFB departments, and with external stakeholders. You will also need to be able to demonstrate tact and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues and conflicting demands, ensuring high standards of customer care are met at all times.

Assessment Overview

As part of the online application form, candidates must provide evidence to address the following criteria:

Selection Criteria 1 - Experience of using a range of Information Technology applications and packages together with good keyboard skills and an understanding of how of how IT systems can be utilised in relation to the duties of the post.

Selection Criteria 2 - Experience of setting up and maintaining detailed administrative processes.

Selection Criteria 3 - Effective oral and written communication skills in order to liaise with staff at all levels and to take accurate minutes/notes of meetings, prepare management briefs and draft correspondence/reports, sometimes of a complex nature.

Selection Criteria 4 - Excellent organisational skills in order to manage workloads, respond effectively to changing priorities and ensure deadlines are met.

Additional Information

in line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £25 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
