We have an opportunity for a keen and motivated Risk Officer to join the Transformation Directorate on a fixed term contract until September 2025. This role will play an important supporting role working with all Brigade departments to identify, analyse and manage their strategic risks (i.e. risks that could stop the effective delivery of the service) as part of the Brigade’s strategic risk management system. This post will provide guidance and support to all staff in terms of understanding the Brigade’s risk management system and the steps they can take to successfully manage threats to the service. The role will play a vital link between all departments and the Transformation Directorate.
The role will work with officers across the organisation to champion strategic risk management and the upkeep of risk information so that it remains current. The role will also provide advice and assistance to senior officers in terms of prioritising where risk management should take place and as well as horizon scanning for emerging threats.
Under the direction of the Head of Risk, the role will play an essential role in the continual improvement of the Brigade’s risk management function by supporting several work streams including, but not limited to, the upkeep of the organisation’s risk registers and the development of the Brigade’s online risk management system. This will include providing support to the work of the risk function to communicate and engage an ever growing audience with the Brigade’s strategic risk management system including preparing supporting materials (e.g. PowerPoint presentations) to guide risk engagement sessions.
You will lead on the tracking and chasing of risk register updates, as well as undertaking risk reviews (including thematic reviews). You will also provide administrative support to Business Services Department, of which the risk team forms part, to ensure the delivery of departmental plans and workflows.
Ideally, we are looking for someone with who has substantial experience working in a corporate risk environment and can evidence their familiarity with risk registers, good risk management practice, knowledge of available methods for risk treatment and the ability to persuade others regarding the importance of risk management. You will be able to communicate both verbally and in writing to a good standard to prepare high quality briefs, presentations, and reports relating to the duties of the post as required. The successful candidate will also be able to manage their time effectively and represent the central risk team at internal meetings as necessary.

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £18 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
