About the team

London Fire Brigade hosts the National Fire Chiefs Council’s Central Programme Office (CPO). The role of Portfolio Analyst is based in the CPO and forms part of the Quality and Standards team. The CPO is responsible for managing our programmes in three key areas: community risk, people, and digital and data. In addition, we support the work of the Fire Standards Board.

What you will be doing

You will be responsible for the collation and analysis of data across our portfolio of programmes and projects. We need you to look after and develop our existing systems to ensure that we can develop evidence-based approaches to our portfolio of work. With your experience in research, you will support our projects and provide additional insight using your analytical skills. You will also be presenting your analysis to a range of our stakeholders using dashboards and other tools.

What skills you should have

You should be an experienced analyst with a strong background in research who is driven to get the work done and has a thoughtful and collaborative approach. We are running change projects and programmes, so we need you to bring your experience of working in this way and understand what is required for successful organisational transformation.

We need you to demonstrate that you are confident with a range of software to get the job done, picking up new skills along the way.

You should have developed excellent all-round communication skills and be comfortable working with all levels of stakeholders. Your presentation skills need to be of a very high standard, you should demonstrate you can explain complex analysis to non-technical audiences and present information using a dashboard or similar approach.

You do not need to have any prior experience of the fire and rescue service although experience of the sector would be beneficial. You will work alongside subject matter experts, many of whom are seconded to the CPO from fire and rescue services. You will work to more than one manager so you will need to be comfortable with matrix management. You should be happy to work at home as well as joining us in London as and when we can; you’ll need to be prepared to travel in line with the requirements of the projects that you are supporting.
