An opportunity has arisen to join the National Fire Chiefs Councils (NFCC), Central Programme Office (CPO) as a Planning and Governance Officer.
The CPO provides programme, project and benefits management services to the fire and rescue sector and is hosted by London Fire Brigade on behalf the NFCC.
Working closely with the Head of Portfolio Coordination, the Planning and Governance Officer will be responsible for co-ordinating and managing the CPO’s governance arrangements that enable delivery of national programmes and projects. They will have additional responsibility for supporting the activity of the Fire Standards Board for England.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of project and programme management methodologies as well as an appreciation of the political environment in which fire and rescue services operate. They will also need demonstrable experience of planning and coordinating high level governance boards, along with the drafting of complex reports.

Assessment Overview
Stage 1
Candidates must provide evidence to address the following criteria:
Selection Criteria 1 - Experience of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff and stakeholders at all levels.
Selection Criteria 2 - Experience of working within a project management environment.
Selection Criteria 3 - The ability to plan and schedule information and reports from a variety of sources to meet key deadlines and milestones.
Selection Criteria 4 -An understanding of local and national political governance structures.
Your application will be sifted based on the responses provided to the above criteria and shortlisted candidates will be invited to stage 2.
Stage 2
Assessment for this role is due to place early/mid-December 2020. Please be advised that if you are unable to make the scheduled assessment date, we may not be able to make alternative arrangements.
Please note: Should you be shortlisted and because of the current Covid-19 situation you will need to be able to conduct an interview over a video conferencing service such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams. You will be asked to provide relevant contact details for that to take place if shortlisted.
Additional Information
In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £23 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
