An opportunity has arisen to join the National Fire Chiefs Councils (NFCC), Central Programme Office (CPO) as a Planning and Governance Officer.
The CPO provides programme, project and benefits management services to the fire and rescue sector and is hosted by London Fire Brigade on behalf the NFCC.
Working closely with the Head of National Portfolio Coordination, the Planning and Governance Officer will be responsible for co-ordinating and managing the CPO’s governance arrangements that enable delivery of national programmes and projects. They will have additional responsible for supporting the activity of the Fire Standard Board for England.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of project and programme management methodologies as well as an appreciation of the political environment in which fire and rescue services operate. They will also need demonstrable experience of planning and coordinating high level governance boards, along with the drafting complex reports.

Assessment Overview
As part of the online application form, candidates must provide evidence to address the following criteria:
Selection Criteria 1 - Experience of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff and stakeholders at all levels.
Selection Criteria 2 - Experience of working within a project management environment.
Selection Criteria 3 - The ability to plan and schedule information and reports from a variety of sources to meet key deadlines and milestones.
Selection Criteria 4 - An understanding of local and national political governance structures.

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £25 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
