Post: Juvenile Firesetters Intervention Scheme (JFIS) Part Time (3 days a week)
Salary: £28,671 - £34,419 (pro-rata)
Grade: FRS C
We are looking for a resilient and enthusiastic individual to join the Juvenile Firesetters Intervention Scheme as a caseworker working 3 days a week . Based at Union Street you will be joining a specialist team who deliver fire safety education on a one to one basis to children and young people up to the age of 18 who demonstrate any type of firesetting behaviour.
You will be working with some of London’s most vulnerable and at risk families providing advice to parents/carers and liaising with other professional agencies. You will be responsible for the planning, organising and delivery of the pilot project in Feltham Young Offenders Institution. This includes undertaking casework within the Young offenders Institution, engaging with young people with a range of firesetting issues and liaising with professional agencies as appropriate .
Experience of working with children and young people, particularly those who are vulnerable, is essential; along with good communication and interpersonal skills in order to establish rapport and cooperation between the brigade and individuals from families with young people who demonstrate firesetting behaviour. You will also have a understanding of child protection and juvenile firesetting issues and be able to undertake research and provide concise summaries of findings.
The role requires someone who is organised and methodical in their approach with a good attention to detail, can prioritise conflicting demands, is self motivated and able to work autonomously. The role also requires someone with personal resilience in relation to processing/collating highly sensitive information from the families and partner agencies JFIS works with.
The post is located in HQ but you will be required to do casework in Feltham Young Offenders Institute and across all London boroughs .

Assessment Overview
Please address the following criteria:
1.1 Experience of working with children, particularly those who are vulnerable.
1.2 Experience of organising, planning and prioritising own work, working flexibly to meet deadlines and Brigade aims and objectives.
2.1 Good oral communication and interpersonal skills, in order to establish rapport and cooperation between the brigade, the clients , their families and other professional agencies .
3.2 An understanding of juvenile firesetting issues and the role of the fire service in addressing firesetting behaviour.
Additional Information
In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), employment checks will be completed for the successful person, which will include a basic criminal records check. The successful person will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and a Disclosure Scotland Basic Disclosure will be undertaken before an appointment is confirmed.
