Post: ICT Security Team Leader
Grade: FRS F
Starting salary: £44,872 per annum
Salary range for the FRS F grade: £44,872 - £58,266 per annum

As a key support service, the delivery of high-quality ICT services is crucial to the efficient, effective and economic achievement of the Brigade’s key vision.

The role of ICT Security Team Leader is key to ensuring the delivery and development of the Brigades ICT security systems.

The role will require experience of managing and motivating specialist technical staff, allocating them work, setting priorities and ensuring they are trained to their full potential.

The successful candidate will possess a ‘CompTIA Security +’ or Cisco Security Certification or at least three years demonstrable and relevant working experience in the field of network security and associated security technologies and products.

They will also have hands-on experience of supporting and managing a server environment, in a large, multi-site organisation, in at least 5 of the following areas:

Enterprise firewalls and rule bases
Enterprise wireless technologies
Anti-virus management
Cloud infrastructure and security
Vulnerability management
Security patch management
Remote/VPN access administration
Microsoft Active Directory/Group Policy
Network Management Tools including Solarwinds
Monitoring/hardening of critical server components
Web and email filtering & content management
Microsoft DNS, SCCM, IIS, web server security or similar

Participation in an on-call rota may be required, for which an on-call allowance will be paid.

Assessment Overview

As part of the online application form, candidates must provide evidence to address the following criteria:

Selection Criteria 1 - Knowledge of WAN/LAN/Wireless infrastructure based on CISCO equipment, networking concepts, VPNs (including SSL VPN), RSA, IDS/IPS, penetration testing, encryption concepts, remote access solutions and certificate key management.

Selection Criteria 2 - Experience of managing and motivating specialist technical staff, allocating them work, setting priorities and ensuring they are trained to their full potential.

Selection Criteria 3 - Proven track record of leading and contributing to major computing projects, helping to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Selection Criteria 4 - Possession of ‘CompTIA Security +’ or Cisco Security Certification or at least one to three years demonstrable and relevant working experience in the field of network security and associated security technologies and products.

Additional Information

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £25 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
