An opportunity has arisen to join the Fire Safety Regulation department in the role of Healthcare Coordinator (Specialist Teams)

Reporting to the Team Leader – FSR Specialist Teams, you will be responsible for managing fire safety matters within the field of healthcare and hospitals, carrying out the day to day role of a Healthcare Coordinator, driving this work stream forward as the Brigade’s subject matter expert.

You will be required to keep up to date with current and future fire safety provisions provided by healthcare organisations in both the NHS and private sector. Shaping policies and delivering information to key stakeholders both within and outside the Brigade, to ensure London Fire Brigade retains its place as a centre of excellence and leader in this sector.

You will also be expected to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external parties, such as NHS England and NHS Improvement. In addition, membership of the National Association of Healthcare Fire Officers and attendance at both London branch and national meetings will be required. Scheduling meetings with NHS Trusts and private hospital/healthcare organisations on the subject of reducing Unwanted Fire Signals in line with the Brigade’s commitments, as well as attending site visits London wide will also be necessary.

To achieve the expected outcomes, the ability to understand and decipher technical information and strong organisational skills are required for this role. Organising continuous professional development for yourself, and the Brigade’s team of healthcare Inspecting Officers will be vital.

Well developed interpersonal and communication skills are essential in order to develop and maintain relationships within the Brigade and with outside organisations at all levels. An understanding of current legislation which covers healthcare fire safety, key developments and related emerging themes is essential.

Assessment Overview

As part of the online application form, candidates must provide evidence to address the following criteria:

Selection Criteria 1 - Practical experience of report writing and presenting in written or verbal form.

Selection Criteria 2 - Excellent interpersonal skills in order to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels, members of the public and representatives of external organisations including professional officers involved in building developments and construction, ensuring that a high standard of customer care is maintained at all times.

Selection Criteria 3 - Proven organisational skills in order to determine work priorities and to ensure deadlines are met.

Selection Criteria 4 - Knowledge of fire safety within healthcare premises, relevant guidance and codes of practice.
