An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen within the London Fire Brigade in the role of Head of Sustainable Development, that is expected to last until June/July 2022.
The role is to lead on strategy and policy for the Brigade’s activities in relation to Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Responsible Procurement. Advising senior management as the subject matter expert in these areas and supporting the consideration of sustainability risks and opportunities within decision making. The role includes managing a team of 3.
Specifically during the course of the cover the successful applicant will be expected to lead the organisation in delivering on its commitments as set out in the Responsible Procurement Implementation Plan, the London Environment Strategy; to finalise development of the brigade’s next sustainable development strategy in line with future corporate business plans; to champion the Brigade wide environmental management system and sustainability behaviour change work.
This will include responding to new policy coming from the Mayor of London, collaborating with other partner organisations of the GLA Group, fire services, and wider public sector.
The successful candidate will have experience of providing clear, balanced advice and guidance on sustainability, environmental and responsible procurement issues, including to senior management; possess a sound knowledge of the relevant subject matter and how it applies to an emergency response organisation; and develop innovative and effective solutions to complex policy challenges. A high level of interpersonal skills and an effective and flexible style to develop and sustain good working relationships with colleagues and external agencies will be essential, along with a drive for continual improvement.
