Some exciting opportunities have arisen within the London Fire Brigade’s Procurement Department for Heads of Category roles in our Category Teams (Operations, ICT, and Professional Services and Assets and Estates).

Each post holder will be a key member of the Procurement and Commercial Management team, reporting into the Head of Commercial (either Operations or Commercial depending on the specific Category). The role will involve management of the relevant Category Team to ensure that all procurement and commercial contract management activity is undertaken in a compliant and suitably risk aware fashion. You will have the opportunity to input and influence in the strategy and future vision of the Procurement Department; and to input into the creation, development, and improvement of compliant processes within LFB’s governance framework.

Each Head of Category will be responsible for the development and dynamic of each category team; within which there are various levels of experience and training needs which will require support and focus. The department as a whole is a diverse, supportive and team focused one which operates in a dynamic sometimes pressurised environment due to the ever changing requirements and markets that we are involved in.

You will be commercially astute with the capability to deliver procurement, contract management and category management activities in full compliance with relevant UK and international legislation and internal policy and procedures. Previous experience of successfully delivering procurement projects under the Public Contract Regulation regime is desirable but not essential.

You will need to be a proactive, self-sufficient and resilient individual who is able to manage a team to deliver the organisation’s procurement objectives. . You will have the ability to manage the category team capacity to maximise efficiencies against the organisation’s aim and objectives through robust prioritisation. You will have excellent communication skills with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders to ensure resources are commercially focused on delivering proportionate, sustainable, and innovative commercial solutions that effectively manage commercial risks.

*Salary for this role is up to £67,600 - based on experience. This would include the salary range of the grade of £47,384 - £61,529 (FRS F) Offers made above £61,529 will include a specialist pay allowance (time bound for 12 months whilst wider pay and benefits review is undertaken).

Additional Information

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £23 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
