We are seeking suitably qualified and experienced staff to join LFB Regulatory Fire Safety to undertake the role of: Inspecting Officer
You will have gained a Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety (or equivalent) and have industry experience ( minimum of 12 months practical experience to support your knowledge).
You will be part of a team supporting the delivery of the Brigade’s Fire Safety Regulation objectives and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will be committed to outcome focused, person centred working who can demonstrate the ability to organise, plan and prioritise your own work to meet deadlines and targets with minimal supervision . Good IT and keyboard skill are required.
You will represent London Fire Brigade and will be working with business ,internal and external partner and will need to display a professional image.
You will undertake inspections of a wide range of premises to identify compliance levels and risk, and where necessary take appropriate action to reduce risk, either via informal advice or formal enforcement action. You will also help influence building design and construction via consultation with statutory bodies to help improve firefighter and the occupants safety.
You will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with individuals and groups from diverse London businesses and communities.
You will need to be able to travel to various external work locations and walking and climbing stairs will be required as part of the role. Located at a Fire safety hubs in one of the Brigade’s delivery areas some travel across London will be required.
Continuous professional development and some self study will be required during your ongoing development and career progression.

Your cover letter should include evidence of your experience to cover these four criteria:
1) Experience of organising, planning and prioritising own work and meeting deadlines and targets with minimal supervision;
2) Effective written communication skills in order to prepare written reports/letters in plain English as well as documents of a legal/technical nature;
3) Demonstrate effective oral communication and interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with Brigade personnel and members of the public and to negotiate with/persuade outside professionals;
4) An understanding of good health and safety practice in order to ensure the health and safety of self and others both in the workplace and whilst on site.

Assessment Overview
Please note: Should you be shortlisted for interview and because of the current Covid 19 situation you will need to be able to conduct an interview over a video conferencing service such as Skype or Zoom. You will be asked to provide relevant contact details for that to take place if shortlisted
Assessment for this role is due to place in May 2020. Please be advised that if you are unable to make the scheduled assessment date, we may not be able to make alternative arrangements.
The assessment process will consist of an Interview and Role-related Exercises.

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £23 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
