The Role

Post: Finance Officer (Accountancy)
Grade: FRS C
Salary range for the FRS C grade: £29,244 - £35,107 per annum

The London Fire Brigade’s vision is to be a world class fire and rescue service. We are the busiest fire and rescue service in the country and one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world. Our workforce comprises of about 4,500 operational and 1,000 non-operational staff.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and flexible individual to support the Finance Team at the London Fire Brigade.

In this newly created role you will be working as part of the accountancy team to deliver high levels of service supporting financial accounting, controls and procedures.

Key duties include:
• Processing of bank and other accounting transactions
• Completion of monthly bank and other financial reconciliations
• Adhering to financial regulations and controls, and suggesting improvements where necessary
• Supporting year end processes and the completion of the annual Statement of Accounts
• Providing support to the wider Finance team and others including dealing with queries from internal staff, external organisations and members of the public.

You will be:
•A Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), have an equivalent finance qualification, or have extensive practical experience in an accounting function in a large organisation.
•Proficient in the use Microsoft Office software particularly Excel and experience of using financial accounting software.
•An effective communicator with the ability to build successful working relationships.
•Task focused with a high degree of attention to detail ensuring that work is completed accurately and to required deadlines.

Assessment Overview

As part of the online application form, candidates must provide evidence to address the following criteria:

Selection Criteria 1 – Membership of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), an equivalent finance qualification, or extensive practical experience in an accounting function.

Selection Criteria 2 – Experience of using a range of IT applications (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook and accounting software or similar packages ).

Selection Criteria 3 - Experience of effectively investigating and solving problems through to conclusion.

Selection Criteria 4 – Experience of effectively managing your own workload and completing tasks accurately within required deadlines.

Additional Information

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £25 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
