A permanent vacancy has arisen in the Procurement Department for a Deputy Head of Procurement within the Corporate Procurement Services team.
The team is responsible for all procurement activity within the organisation, working with internal client departments to fulfil operational and other requirements focussing on achieving value for money for the Brigade.
The successful applicant will manage, in conjunction with the existing two other Deputy Heads of Procurement, the procurement pipeline of the Brigade. The role also includes collaboration with other public sector bodies such as the Metropolitan Police and Transport for London and other Fire Rescue Authorities.
The London Fire Brigade, at this strategic level, is pursuing a category management style approach to Procurement; while the job description is a generalist one it is envisaged that the successful applicant will lead on core areas of the business and be required to develop close, strategic working relationships within particular categories. In order to maintain flexibility within the small team at this level, extensive generalist experience is required with an aptitude and willingness to build experience in particular categories once in post.
The successful applicant shall lead by example as a key member of the Procurement Management team.

Assessment Overview
As part of the online application form, candidates must provide evidence to address the following criteria:
Selection Criteria 1 - Experience of leading by example to ensure early planning and awareness of how the consideration of existing work commitments are considered to facilitate succession planning, organisation and prioritisation within a team.
Selection Criteria 2 - Experience of overcoming resistance, resolving issues and managing risks and knowing when to escalate to management with proposed recommendations for review. Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage conflict in a professional manner whilst providing consistent support for the section by encouraging stakeholders to focus on solutions.
Selection Criteria 3 - Experience of leading and managing a range of compliant procurement activities and drafting all associated tender and contract documentation to effectively manage commercial risks. Experience of public sector procedures and regulations governing the invitation and award of contracts and embedding this knowledge into fulfilling the role.
Selection Criteria 4 - Analytical skills to understand requirements, commercial risks and opportunities to facilitate proportionate value for money procurement solutions with consideration of whole life costing and total cost of acquisition.
