The London Fire Brigade’s Data Analytics team present this exciting opportunity to help mould and grow an in house data science capability in a fire and rescue service – one of the first of its kind.

By joining our team as our first Data Scientist you will have the opportunity to help us map out what Data Science should do in a large emergency service, whilst also working on interesting projects like prediction models to help keep our population safe, extracting insights from unstructured data (like free text) and explore new and unique ways to help us improve our efficiency and effectiveness as a service.

You will have experience working with complex datasets and solving challenging business problems. You will be integrated into a team of approx. 12 experienced analysts, so will have full support with regards to the data, the policy landscape and the organisational priorities. There is potential to grow and develop in this team, as well as scale up outputs to a national and international level as appropriate.

Assessment Overview

Stage 1

CV and cover letter (sift). Shortlisted candidates will be invited to stage 2.

Stage 2

Assessment for this role is due to take place mid/late-August 2021. Please be advised that if you are unable to make the scheduled assessment date, we may not be able to make alternative arrangements.

Please note: Should you be shortlisted and because of the current Covid-19 situation you will need to be able to conduct an interview over Microsoft Teams (a video conferencing service). You will be asked to provide relevant contact details for that to take place if shortlisted.

Additional Information

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £23 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
