An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Receptionist to be a key part of our dedicated team, working in a professional, and friendly environment, with training and development opportunities and great benefits.
The London Fire Brigade has a responsibility to provide an efficient and effective customer care service through its reception, switchboard and paging facilities when contacted by the public and internal staff for non-emergency purposes.
We are currently recruiting for a full time Receptionist/Switchboard Operator to join our vibrant, successful and passionate team at LFB HQ. In this outward-facing key role you will provide an excellent reception service liaising with staff and members of the public alike, either face to face or over the telephone using a computerised switchboard. You will receive visitors, maintain the signing in book, answer internal and external calls promptly, carry out paging requests, and maintain a telephone fault reporting log.
To succeed you will have the experience of dealing with members of the public along with working on a computerised switchboard, possessing good keyboard skills. You will maintain a high standard of customer care practice at all times, and will have excellent oral and written communication skills. Additionally, you will be well organised and will be able to work flexibly in a team.

Assessment Overview
As part of the online application form, candidates must provide evidence to address the following criteria:
Selection Criteria 1 - Experience of organising, planning and prioritising own work and meeting deadlines and targets with minimal supervision.
Selection Criteria 2 - Experience of working in a customer/client focused service responding courteously to callers and ensuring their requirements are effectively and expediently dealt with including ordering and tracking goods and services.
Selection Criteria 3 - Experience of using a range of information technology applications with good keyboard skills and an awareness of the ways in which IT applications can be utilised in relation to the duties of this post.
Selection Criteria 4 - An understanding of the principles of best practice in customer care when providing a service to clients.

Additional Information
In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £23 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
