Salary: £44,800.00 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting)

The London Fire Brigade are currently welcoming Expressions of Interest (EoI) from competent Firefighters to be stationed at one of our Command Unit Stations.

We have 7 Command Unit stations throughout London and are based at the following stations.

Forest Hill
Mitcham
Richmond
Park Royal
Dockhead
Holloway
Plaistow

We will be hosting two information days about the role you are applying for, and we strongly encourage interested individuals to attend. These sessions will provide valuable insights into the role and the process of joining the London Fire Brigade, offering the opportunity to have any questions answered. Attending these days will help you better understand the important role you can play within the London Fire Brigade.

Information Days will be held at LFB Headquarters 169 Union Street, Southwark, SE1 0LL:

19th March 13:00 – 15:00
24th March 10:00 – 12:00

Successful Candidates will agree to a minimum of 2 year commitment at their posting.

Role details

To provide a round-the-clock service to London, we operate a two shift, four-watch system.

Further information about the main duties and responsibilities of the role are detailed in the attached role map.

Please note applications will be processed on a rolling basis.

The role will have the following pay benefits:
• The Command Unit driver will attract a 2% pensionable skills payment.
• Firefighter 2% MTA Payment.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, candidates must be:

• A serving whole-time operational, competent and substantive firefighter within a UK local authority fire service. Please note this is for substantive transfers only and is not a promotional process.

• Have no current/outstanding development action plans or capability issues related to competency.

• Be free of current formal disciplinary actions.

• Hold a valid HGV and EFAD licence and qualification.

• Confirmation of competency in all units of the role map will be required, if you do not currently have all units complete, we will be unable to proceed with your application.

• We cannot accept applications from any on-call firefighters currently undertaking a temporary, casual or zero-hour Wholetime contract (or contract to that effect).

Assessment Overview

Stage 1 Application closing date: 4 PM on 2nd April 2025

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to stage 2.

The next stages are scheduled to take place from April 2025.

Stage 2: Structured Interview (Pass mark of 70% or above) and Chester Treadmill Test

Stage 3: Successful candidates will be invited to to attend a medical

If successful at medical stage, candidates will be offered a post.

Stage 4: Offer stage, including pre-employment checks which are deemed satisfactory by the London Fire Commissioner (LFC).
