Business Intelligence Analyst
Grade: FRS C/D
Start salary: dependent on experience
Salary range for the C/D grade: £28,671 - £39,197
Please Note: The salary is negotiable depending on skills and experience of successful candidate.

A permanent vacancy has arisen within the London Fire Brigade’s Data Analytics and Insight team as a Business Intelligence Analyst, based at our headquarters on Union Street, SE1 0LL.

The Data Analytics and Insight team helps to make London a safer city by providing accurate, insightful and innovative analysis of the full spectrum of information that is collected and held by the London Fire Brigade. We use the Microsoft BI Stack to collect, integrate, analyse and present data to an organisation’s staff so that they can better understand the historical, current and future position of the business and so make informed and better decisions.

As a Business Intelligence Analyst you will conduct investigative analysis and create reports using a range of data sources and information to inform high level policy and strategy but also the day to day operation of the London Fire Brigade.

Applicants will need to demonstrate advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and have experience of working with large datasets to analyse and interpret findings; be able to build and maintain working relationships with a range of partners and customers; have excellent IT skills. (You would stand out if you have skills in SQL Server, Power BI and GIS). We are looking for a candidate with excellent attention to detail, organisational and time management skills as well as flexibility and the ability to use his or her initiative.

Selection criteria 1 - Experience of using and maintaining business intelligence tools.
[For example: Experience using SQL to query large datasets and create reports that summarise and assist in the explanation and consumption of data. Proficiency of SQL and SSRS (or similar analytics tools) to a level expected having completed relevant training courses. Knowledge and ability to integrate analytics tools to provide a Business Intelligence environment (such as create and use Excel spreadsheets with SQL data connections and joined pivot tables). Knowledge of server-side processing such as stored procedures, temporary tables and creating and altering tables.]

Selection criteria 2 - Experience of managing statistical and performance information in a large organisation or knowledge of the use and interpretation of statistics to a professional standard.

Selection criteria 3 - Good numerical skills with the ability to interpret and present statistical data and excellent attention to detail.

Selection criteria 4 - Report writing skills to be able to present outcomes from analysis and research in an accessible and clear way to a range of audiences.
