London Fire Brigade is transforming for the future and the Property Department plays an important role in this transformation. As one of the largest fire and rescue services in the world we have a fantastic opportunity for a Building Surveyor to join our property team. To deliver property projects as required such that they are customer focused, on time, within budgets and carried out in accordance with agreed standards and policies (energy efficient).
We are now looking for Building Surveyors to join our team, helping us to continue to find innovative solutions, delivering service of the highest quality. The post holder will need to manage appointed suppliers (consultants/contractors) to deliver building projects as allocated. The Building Surveyor may be expected to manage directly, projects carried out by external suppliers, as well as managing projects where a supplier acts as the Contract Administrator (CA) and/or Project Manager to another external supplier.
Experience and Qualifications
• Possession of a nationally recognised qualification in a construction related discipline and/or relevant extensive experience at an appropriate level and/or specific contractual knowledge.
• Experience of managing professional services in respect of building project management in a multi-disciplined environment, including small to medium sized projects up to a nominal value up to £250,000.
• Experience of supervising construction works undertaken using Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) or Association of Consulting Engineers (ACE) or similar contracts with a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the different parties to the contract. Experience in acting as a Contract Administrator and/or a Client’s Representative/Project Sponsor.
• Experience of producing cost estimates, monitoring budgets and providing detailed financial information.
• Experience of using a range of Information Communication Technology applications and an awareness of the ways in which IT applications can be utilised in the context of the work, so that added value may be given.

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £23 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
