Automatic fire suppression systems control and have the potential to extinguish fires without human intervention. The earlier that a fire is contained, the lower the risk of death.
A unique opportunity has arisen to join the Fire Safety Department within the London Fire Brigade in the role of Automatic Fire Suppression System (AFSS) Coordinator. We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual to engage with outside agencies such as local authorities and housing providers, providing them with key information on AFSS and other fire safety related matters, promoting London Fire Brigade’s AFSS position to reduce risk to London’s Communities.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for engaging and maintaining effective working relationships with AFSS Stakeholders such as British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association (BAFSA) and National Fire Sprinkler Network (NFSN). As the AFSS Coordinator, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape and influence policies/national guidance and deliver information to key stakeholders both internally and externally, at all levels.
The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to influence both locally and nationally. The successful candidate will have an understanding of current legislation specific to AFSS fire safety, key developments and related emerging themes and will be required to keep up to date with current and future fire safety developments.
If successful, you will be joining an established team of specialists in heritage and healthcare and will be provided with additional learning within these areas to encompass these subjects within your role where applicable.
The successful candidate will be developed and trained to a Level 4 diploma certificate in fire safety to assist you in the role as one of the Brigades subject matter experts.

Eligibility
Applicants must have a recognised qualification in Fire Safety – Minimum of level 3 certificate, and willing to work towards the level 4 diploma. Other relevant qualifications will be considered.

Assessment for this role is due to take place in July 2021. Please be advised that if you are unable to make the scheduled assessment date, we may not be able to make alternative arrangements.
Please note: Should you be shortlisted and because of the current Covid-19 situation you will need to be able to conduct an interview over Microsoft Teams (a video conferencing service). You will be asked to provide relevant contact details for that to take place if shortlisted.

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £23 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
