A unique opportunity has arisen to join the Central Fire Safety Team in the role of Automatic Fire Suppression System (AFSS) Coordinator. We are seeking a highly motivated individual, who can help us to reduce risks across the communities of London.

Reporting to the Team Leader – FSR Central Teams, you will be responsible for managing fire safety matters within the field of AFSS whilst carrying out the day to day role of an AFSS Coordinator. This includes working alongside, and being involved with, the other Central Team Coordinators (Heritage and Healthcare), driving these work streams forward as one of the Brigade’s subject matter experts.

You will be required to keep up to date with current and future fire safety developments, this includes engaging and maintaining effective working relationships with AFSS Stakeholders such as British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association (BAFSA) and National Fire Sprinkler Network (NFSN) . This role is key to shaping policies/national guidance and delivering information to key stakeholders both internally and externally, at all levels.

A key part of this role will involve engaging with outside agencies such as local authorities and housing providers, providing them with key information on AFSS and other fire safety related matters, promoting London Fire Brigade’s AFSS position/London Safety Plan (LSP) objectives. This part of the role will require individuals to possess good communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to influence both locally and nationally. The successful candidate will have an understanding of current legislation specific to AFSS fire safety, key developments and related emerging themes.

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £23 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
