An opportunity has arisen to join the Fire Safety Department in the role of Management Support Officer. The latest London Safety Plan highlights the direction the Fire Safety department is taking and this is a great time to undertake a supporting role to deliver its aims and objectives.

The Management Support Officer is responsible for providing proactive support the Fire Safety Senior Management Team in addition to undertaking the duties of personal assistant to the Assistant Commissioner - Head of Fire Safety.

The responsibilities for the role will include, but are not limited to, administrative duties associated with the developing and maintaining a forward planning system for meetings (including Board level), drafting correspondence, undertaking research on a range of issues, general PA support in the form of minutes/notes at meetings and diary management.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to develop and maintain professional working relationships at all levels, both within the organisation and externally. In addition you must have strong organisational and IT skills. Due to the nature of the role, discretion and an understanding of the need for confidentiality is essential.

Assessment Overview

Selection Criteria 1 - Experience of providing an effective and efficient administrative support to senior management.

Selection Criteria 2 - Experience of organising, planning and prioritising own work, meeting deadlines and targets with minimal supervision.

Selection Criteria 3 - Effective communication and interpersonal skills in order to forge efficient working relationships, both internally and externally.

Selection Criteria 4 - Good written communication skills in order to write reports, letters, agenda and minutes which are clear and easy to understand.

In line with the Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) employment checks will be completed by successful candidates, which will include a basic criminal records check. Successful candidate will be required to declare any convictions for offences which are not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any offer of employment is subject to the LFC receiving a criminal records disclosure which it considers satisfactory. Successful candidates should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to get a copy of their criminal record and share the original disclosure certificate with the LFC. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’. It will cost the successful candidates £25 (current charge) and usually takes up to 14 days.
